Opening Bell: Tough Mudder & Warrior Dash combined draw up to 59,000 over the weekend

19 Sep 2011

The Warrior Dash held two obstacle course races this weekend: a single-day event in Tennessee and a two-day event in Wisconsin. Up to 25,000 fans and runners for were expected in Tennessee, while 14,000 were registered for Wisconsin.

One source claims that up to 20,000 signed up for the Tough Mudder, while another states roughly 16,000 registered for the obstacle course race in Northern California.

Alex Yount, media relations director with Red Frog Events, sums up the reason for the growing popularity of obstacle course races: “The fun and the lighthearted nature, while still challenging and being a tough and rugged event,” he said to the Journal Sentinel of Milwaukee. “Combining all that energy into a kick-ass festival at the end of the day.”

  1. Thanks for all the useful info on obstacle course races. I also love reading about your experience with P90X. I’m contemplating signing up for the tough mudder at some point, and wonder if you have any exercise program that would be geared to specifically train for it? Thanks!
