Opening Bell: Obstacle Course Races – Participation & Popularity (8/29)

With Hurricane Irene bearing down, Huntersville, North Carolina and Amesbury, Masschusetts hosted the Warrior Dash and Spartan Sprint, respectively. Sunday’s Sprint was cancelled due to Irene, but both races combined to attract 17,500. The Warrior Dash drew 13,500 over the two-day weekend. The Spartan Sprint sold out for Saturday with 4,000 contestants.

P90x: Week 4

This week was better than last, and I’m looking forward to recovery this upcoming week.

This week actually looks challenging. There are no strength/resistance training-based workout routines. There are a couple days each of Yoga X & Core Synergistics with a day each of Kenpo X and X Stretch. You would think the absence of weight training days would qualify this as a week to recharge, but I would think again. (more…)

Spartan Sprint-Calgary & Warrior Dash-Colorado combine to attract over 16,000

Calgary and The Rockies hosted a pair of dashes/sprints over the weekend. The Spartan Sprint took place on Saturday, with an estimated 1,500 contestants having registered for the race. Another estimated 15,000 signed up for the Warrior Dash in Copper Mountain, Colorado. (more…)

Opening Bell: Obstacle course racing popularity (8/22)

The Spartan Race exceeded 500,000 FB Fans last week, and one lucky fan won free entry to a Spartan race. With a similar promo to accumulate one million likes, Tough Mudder’s FB Fans increased to more than 950,000 over the past week. (more…)
